Ananguku Arts is working with the Ngarrindjeri community of the Coorong region and the Ngarrindjeri elder Major Sumner and his family to continue the cultural practice of canoe making from river redgum trees. In a highly skilled and delicate operation a single piece of bark is cut from a tree and cured over a fire to create a sturdy water craft.
In 2011 Major Sumner opened the Our Mob Exhibition at the Adelaide Festival Centre by paddling a canoe made for this project accross the Torrens to Elder Park.
