DARWIN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

This year was the second year Ku Arts supported the travel of a selected group of artists and arts-workers from regional and remote communities in South Australia to attended and participate in industry events, exhibitions, workshops and presentations during Darwin's art festival season. Throughout the 5-day professional development trip participants engaged with Aboriginal arts industry leaders and innovators from across Australia.

Participants attended the opening of the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards and the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF), as well as exhibitions from Salon Art Projects and the National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs). Participants were blown away by the calibre of work on display, connected with artists from communities across the country and built networks of curators, gallerists and industry professionals. At the end of the PD, artists left feeling encouraged to enter work in future NATSIAAs and hold a stall at future Darwin Aboriginal Art Fairs.
